SUMMARY:Art + Science Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Safe Harbors Ann Street Gallery presents ART+SCIENCE, a group exhibition highlighting the innovative works by 17 exhibiting artists and scientists from around the globe, who are working to integrate methodologies and concepts borrowed from science into their artwork, thereby helping to create a new aesthetic way to experience science.\nCollaborations between artists and scientists is not a new phenomenon, however, they are becoming more popular as science offers a range of new media and methods for artistic exploration. Within this new movement, artists are incorporating scientific methods into their practice, and scientists are using scientific data to create works of art, resulting in a proliferation of collaborations that often produce radically different aesthetic conclusions. Aside from addressing modes of creation inspired by science, many of the works in the exhibit succeed in blurring the boundaries between the disciplines by fusing the two together, which provides an opportunity to explore a wide range of scientific interests.\nThe featured art includes installations, sculptures, paintings, microetchings, fiber arts, and other mixed-media works, that investigate diverse scientific areas such as: digital data programming; microbiology; self-illuminating sculpture; artificial retina research; and creative explorations into the realm of coding.\nMore importantly, the exhibition affords a venue for artists, scientists and the audience to explore how the world is perceived through the lenses of art and science, with the ultimate goal of bridging the gulf between the two disciplines, while raising awareness of the cultural impact of science through art.\nWe encourage people of all ages to visit the exhibition to explore these stimulating interactions presented in ART+SCIENCE, as well as, discovering what it means to work across the two disciplines.\nArtists in the exhibition: Jennifer Boldt, David C. Bryant, Tyler Bohm, Wilson Butterworth, Kindra Crick, Greg Dunn, Forceperunit, Mary Giehl, Bojana Ginn, Dana Lynn Harper, Paula Imirzian, Katherine Jackson, Scott McIntire, Cristin Millett, Shannon Novak, Denes Ruzsa, John Sabraw, Steve Sangapore and Brett Swenson.\nThis exhibition runs through to Saturday, November 28, 2015.\nFor more information contact Virginia Walsh at (845) 784-1146 or vwalsh@annstreetgallery.org.\nThe gallery is located at 104 Ann Street, Newburgh, NY.\nGallery Hours:\nWednesday and Thursday 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 – 5 p.m.\nFriday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.\nNewburgh Last Saturdays of each month 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.\n\n \n #gallery-1 {\n margin: auto;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-item {\n float: left;\n margin-top: 10px;\n text-align: center;\n width: 25%;\n }\n #gallery-1 img {\n border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-caption {\n margin-left: 0;\n }\n /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
