Gallery Talk with artist Katherine Jackson
The Safe Harbors of the Hudson Ann Street Gallery is pleased to host a Gallery Talk with artist, Katherine Jackson on Saturday, November at 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Katherine Jackson sculptures composed of etched glass, LED lights and steel are featured in the exhibition ART+ SCIENCE, presently on display in the gallery. Her work incorporates technology as an expressive element and strives to create a seamless integration of traditional techniques: drawing, etching, wielding with state of the art technological elements. Her piece Observatory with its suspended glass lens refocuses the theme from astronomical observation to the act of observing, making conscious the basic exchange between a viewer and a piece of art. As the artist states: “My work marries glass and light with image, so as to create a vibration between transparency and opacity; looking at and looking through. I’m attracted to the combination of science and art because nowhere is the experience of “shifting perspectives” more palpable than when we engage these two realms in tandem.”
Katherine Jackson is a New York artist who has exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad. Her works has been exhibited in galleries, universities, and public spaces in NYC, US, and Berlin. Jackson’s large scale installation have been exhibited in various public spaces in Manhattan which include: a large scale, commissioned sculpture at Interface in midtown Manhattan, (2015); the New York Public Library; an exhibition at the NY Tenement Museum (2007-8); as well as, an exhibition in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Manhattan Bridge (2009).
