Safe Harbors of the Hudson Welcomes New Members to the Board of Directors

Newburgh, NY – Safe Harbors of the Hudson is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashley Collazo, Jacqui Jarmann, Likkia Moody, and Shawn Strong to its Board of Directors.
Ashley Collazo is the Program Coordinator at the Desmond Center for Community Engagement & Wellness at Mount Saint Mary College. Ashley was on the Planning Committee for Downing Park and brings with her 10+ years of experience in the not-for-profit industry. Owner of the Newburgh Mercantile, Jacqui Jarmann, a Newburgh native, has volunteered with Flowers Grow in Newburgh, Newburgh Café Night, Newburgh Illuminated and the Newburgh Shop Small initiative. Likkia Moody, is the Director of Newburgh Campus, SUNY Orange. Her commitment to Newburgh can be seen in her work with Newburgh Urban Food and Farm Initiative and the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. NFA graduate, Shawn Strong, brings with him his “strong” connections in the Newburgh community as well as his creative assets as the Owner of Phanatiks Entertainment and Co-Founder of Hudsy.TV.

Safe Harbors of the Hudson to Receive
$20,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

Newburgh, NY—Safe Harbors of the Hudson is pleased to announce it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to receive a Grants for Arts Projects award of $20,000 in support of its Ann Street Gallery’s BIPOC Emerging Artist Fellowship. This grant is one of 1,251 Grants for Arts Projects awards totaling nearly $28.8 million that were announced by the NEA as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support arts projects in communities nationwide,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “Projects such as this one with Safe Harbors of the Hudson strengthen arts and cultural ecosystems, provide equitable opportunities for arts participation and practice, and contribute to the health of our communities and our economy.”

The Ann Street Gallery Emerging Fellowship Program aims to provide a supportive platform for experimental and substantive growth for emerging artists. The selected artists will form a cohort that will engage in workshops and site visits designed to expand their practices, develop their portfolios, resumes, and artist statements, and build their identities as professional artists. Fellows will visit local art institutions such as Storm King Art Center, Dia:Beacon, the Hessel Museum, Magazzino, among others to broaden exposure to arts in the Hudson Valley. The program will culminate with a self-organized collective group exhibition showcasing the Fellows’ work at Ann Street Gallery.

NEWBURGH, NY — The Preservation League of New York State and their program partners at the New York State Council on the Arts are thrilled to announce that Safe Harbors of the Hudson has received a 2022 Technical Assistance Grant. This grant will contribute to the ongoing restoration of Safe Harbors historic Ritz Theater. During this grant cycle, 19 projects representing 14 counties across the state have been selected by an independent panel of preservation professionals. A total of $68,130 was awarded.
“Safe Harbors is thrilled to receive TAG funding for the ongoing preservation of its Ritz Theater, one of Newburgh’s greatest treasures! We are proud to partner with the Preservation League of New York and the New York State Council on the Arts on this exciting project,” said Lisa Silverstone, Safe Harbors Executive Director.
TAG funding will allow Safe Harbors to engage Derive Engineers to complete an options analysis and identify appropriate mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MED/FP) for the ongoing redevelopment of the historic Ritz Theater stage house in downtown Newburgh, NY.

The Technical Assistance Grant (TAG) program is a partnership between the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the Preservation League of New York State, made possible by NYSCA with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. The Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area has provided additional support for the projects within the National Heritage Area boundary. The TAG program supports arts centers, historic sites, music halls, theaters, libraries, and other cultural nonprofit or municipal entities that steward historic buildings throughout New York State.
With the announcement of the 2022 awards, support provided by TAG since its launch in 2012 totals $602,104. These grants have directly advanced the efforts of 191 preservation projects.
“Now in its tenth year, the Technical Assistance Grant program has become a foundational part of the League’s offerings,” said Preservation League President Jay DiLorenzo. “We have seen firsthand how these grants get preservation efforts off the ground, opening the door for bigger projects and further investment.
